From 3D Data to XR Experiences: Forum on the Future of Cultural Heritage Technologies
A final showcase of 3DBigDataSpace project, in collaboration with XRculture, and 3D-4CH – Online Competence Centre in 3D for Cultural Heritage

1 July 2026 | Poznań & Online (Hybrid)

On 1 July, we’ll gather in Poznań—both in person and online—for the final event of the 3DBigDataSpace project, organised together with XRculture and the 3D-4CH Online Competence Centre.

This isn’t meant as a closing ceremony. It’s a moment to take stock, share what has been built, and ask what actually comes next for 3D cultural heritage in Europe.

Setting the Scene

The day begins by stepping back and looking at the bigger picture: where 3D cultural heritage sits within the broader European data space, and how far we’ve come in making data not just available, but usable.

From there, the programme quickly moves into practice.

Tools, Workflows, and What They Enable

A core part of the event is dedicated to the tools and use cases developed within 3DBigDataSpace.

Rather than long presentations, this session focuses on short, focused demonstrations—giving a sense of how different components fit together, from data processing and enrichment to visualisation and access.

Alongside this, you’ll see how institutions are already working with these tools in real contexts—what works well, what still needs refinement, and where unexpected challenges appear.

From Data to Experience

In the afternoon, the perspective widens.

A series of project showcases looks at how 3D technologies are being applied across different domains, followed by contributions from XRculture that explore how these datasets move into immersive environments and XR applications.

This is where the shift becomes tangible: from datasets and pipelines to actual experiences and user interaction.

Looking Ahead: What Comes Next?

The final session brings everyone back together for a more open discussion.

It focuses on how different initiatives—data infrastructures, XR technologies, and capacity-building efforts—can align more closely in the future. The aim is not to present a finished roadmap, but to reflect on what is realistically needed to move forward:

  • sustainable storage and access
  • shared standards and workflows
  • skills, training, and institutional support

There will be space for questions, exchange, and honest reflection.

Join the Conversation

Throughout the day, there will be time to continue discussions informally—during breaks, over lunch, and into the closing session.

Whether you are working hands-on with 3D data, developing tools, or trying to understand how these pieces connect, this forum offers a useful point of entry into the current landscape.

You can join us in Poznań or follow the sessions online.
