From European Innovation to Local Impact: POCTEC San Rosendo Builds on 3DBigDataSpace Expertise
Published on 09 Jun 2026
Innovation rarely ends where a project concludes. A strong example of this is the new initiative POCTEC San Rosendo, which directly builds on knowledge, methods, and technological expertise developed within the European project 3DBigDataSpace.
The project focuses on the enhancement of tourism experiences along the Camino de San Rosendo, combining cultural heritage, digital innovation, and immersive technologies to create a new model for sustainable and intelligent tourism development.
Transferring Knowledge from 3DBigDataSpace
A key pillar of POCTEC San Rosendo is the transfer of expertise gained through 3DBigDataSpace, particularly in the fields of geospatial data integration, digital mapping, and data-driven tourism applications. This continuity ensures that research and innovation developed in a European context is translated into tangible local impact.
A Georeferenced, Multi-Sensory Tourism Map
At the core of the project is the development of a georeferenced digital map covering five sensory routes along the Camino de San Rosendo. Built using advanced GIS technologies, the system integrates detailed geospatial data collected through fieldwork and official sources.
Each point of interest is precisely located and structured into thematic layers, enabling users to explore individual routes or combine them into personalized experiences. The system is designed with scalability in mind, allowing new cultural and tourism assets to be added over time.
A Cross-Platform Immersive Mobile Experience
To bring the routes to life, a cross-platform mobile application (iOS and Android) will be developed. The app will allow users to interact with the georeferenced map, navigate routes in real time, and access contextual information about each location.
In addition, the application will include immersive digital content, such as:
- Audio storytelling
- Augmented Reality (AR) experiences
- Virtual visits and reconstructions
These features will be triggered at specific points of interest, offering visitors a deeply engaging and contextual understanding of the Camino de San Rosendo.
Artificial Intelligence for Tourism Insights
Another innovative component of POCTEC San Rosendo is the integration of Artificial Intelligence for user feedback analysis. Tourists will be able to share reviews and experiences, which will be processed using natural language processing (NLP) and semantic analysis techniques.
This will enable the extraction of insights related to:
- Visitor satisfaction
- Preferences and behavior patterns
- Opportunities for service and experience improvement
The results will be visualized through dashboards, charts, and heat maps, supporting evidence-based decision-making for tourism stakeholders.
Multilingual Access and Pilot Implementation
To ensure accessibility and inclusivity, the application will be available in Spanish, Portuguese, and English. A pilot phase will be conducted to assess its impact on tourism activity and user engagement, providing valuable feedback for future scaling and refinement.
A Continuation of European Digital Heritage Innovation
POCTEC San Rosendo demonstrates how European research initiatives such as 3DBigDataSpace can evolve beyond their original scope, directly shaping real-world applications in cultural tourism and regional development. You can have a look at the web application here.
By combining geospatial intelligence, immersive technologies, and artificial intelligence, the project contributes to a more interactive, data-driven, and sustainable tourism ecosystem.
