Training and Capacity Building in 3DBigDataSpace

Tailored educational activities for practitioners, managers, and policymakers.

The 3DBigDataSpace project places a strong focus on training and capacity building to empower cultural heritage professionals in the use of 3D and XR technologies. Through tailored educational activities, the project addresses the specific needs of practitioners, managers, and policymakers, helping them plan, apply, and strategically reuse 3D content in the cultural heritage sector.

Training formats range from hands-on workshops to open educational resources and summer schools, combining physical, remote, and self-guided approaches.

Summer Schools on Heritage at Risk

As part of its commitment to safeguarding endangered heritage, 3DBigDataSpace will organize two dedicated events focusing on heritage at risk, led by ICOMOS CIPA and the Time Machine Organisation (TMO). These events may take the form of intensive summer schools or extended workshops, and will train professionals in the documentation, visualization, and dissemination of vulnerable cultural heritage using 3D technologies.

Participation in the summer schools will be free of charge, thanks to dedicated project funding. However, participants should be aware that travel and accommodation costs may need to be covered individually, depending on available support and their region of origin. A special effort will be made to enable participation from less developed regions and to reduce financial barriers wherever possible.

All activities will be thoroughly documented and shared through EuropeanaPro and TMO News. The 3D data created during these events will be published in the 3DBigDataSpace infrastructure, ensuring long-term accessibility and visibility.

Workshops and Self-Guided Learning

To build practical skills across the cultural heritage sector, 3DBigDataSpace offers both interactive workshops and flexible, self-guided training resources. In-person workshops, organized by INCEPTION, the Hunt Museum, and PSNC, will provide hands-on experience with 3D digitization techniques and the tools and datasets developed in the project. Complementary live webinars and remote demonstrations will extend access to a wider audience. All sessions will be recorded and supported by downloadable learning materials for continued use.

In addition, the project will develop a set of open educational resources, including video tutorials, PDF guides, and step-by-step instructions tailored to different user profiles. These materials, created by project partners and quality-checked by Europeana, will be published via the Europeana Learning Management System. This blended approach ensures that both new and experienced professionals can access high-quality training on their own terms and at their own pace.
